Northern Waterthrush (Seiurus noveboracensis)
- HABITAT - Across Canada, Northern Waterthrush nests primarily in spruce bogs, along the many alder- and willow-bordered rivers. They can also be found and along lakes, swamps, and wet woodlands. In the winter season, they migrate to the tropical mangroves of Central and South America.
- DIET - Northern Waterthrush forage at the water’s edge in bogs and still water, where they hunt aquatic insects, small crustaceans and small salamanders.
- FACTS - Northern Waterthrushes spend much of their time on the ground, wading through standing water, walking along the ground, and hopping over downed logs and other obstacles. Sightings are rare due to this elusive behaviour.
