Tennessee Warbler (Leiothlypis peregrina)
- HABITAT - The Tennessee warbler breeds from New England States, north and west throughout the boreal forest of Canada. This warbler winters in southern Central America, the Caribbean, and northern Colombia and Venezuela.
- DIET - Tennessee warblers eat insects during the breeding season. During the fall and winter, the eat seeds, insects, and berries as well as nectar.
- FACTS - The Tennessee Warbler is one of the many warblers poorly named by Alexander Wilson. Mr. Wilson had a bad habit of naming birds based on where he collected his specimen. It was collected in Tennessee, where it may appear during migration. Perhaps the so called "Father of American Ornithology" didn’t know that birds migrated. He was also a poet, so, perhaps, he was just being a smart ass. The specific name peregrina is from Latin peregrinus "wanderer".
