Cape May Warbler (Setophaga tigrina)
- HABITAT - The Cape May Warbler's preferred habitat for breeding include open spruce forests, but during migration they may also found in evergreen or deciduous woodlands. Breeding range is from southwestern Northwest Territories to Nova Scotia and south from North Dakota to Maine. They spend the winters in southern Florida and the West Indies.
- DIET - These attractive warblers breed in the northern spruce-fir forests, where its nesting success is tied to its chief food, the spruce budworm caterpillar. They have specially shaped tongues that allow them to sip nectar from flowers in winter and during migration.
- FACTS - Cape May Warbler is another one of Alexander Wilson's poorly named warbler, named based on the area he collected the species. After that, Cape May Warblers were not recorded in Cape May for more than 100 years. I prefer the french name, translated as Tiger Warbler.
