Blackpoll Warbler (Setophaga striata)
- HABITAT - The Blackpoll Warbler breeds in forests of northern North America, from Alaska throughout most of Canada, to the mountains of New York and New England. Although they may be considered as a common migrant through much of North America, our area see very few of them.
- Their migration takes them South to the Greater Antilles and the Northeastern coasts of South America in a non-stop long-distance migration over open water. The trip averages 2500km which is quite a feat for such as small songbird.
- DIET - Blackpoll Warblers eat mainly spiders and insects but may supplement its diet with fruits in winter and during migration.
- FACTS - Blackpoll Warblers are long-distance migrators and they hold the record for the longest overwater flight for a songbird.
