White-throated Sparrow (Zonotrichia albicollis)
- HABITAT - White-throated Sparrows breed throughout the boreal forest across Canada into northeastern US states. They winter in eastern USA to Texas and a patch along the Pacific coast
- DIET - White-throated Sparrow mainly eat seeds and insects. These sparrows hop when they’re on the ground rather than walking or running. They forage in the leaf litter, often using both feet at once to scratch backwards, then pounce forward at anything they’ve uncovered.
- FACTS - White-throated Sparrows are famous for their delightful call as they sing through out the day. We have heard them singing late in the day, even long after the sunset.
- Every spring we get a few White-throated Sparrows stop by our backyard feeders on there way to their summer breeding grounds. They sing their familiar song that lets us know that warm weather is well on the way. They occasionally stop again in the fall on their way back south.
