White-crowned Sparrow (Zonotrichia leucophrys)
- HABITAT - White-crowned Sparrow breeds in brushy areas in the taiga and tundra of the northernmost parts of the continent and in the Rocky Mountains and Pacific coast. It lives throughout Canada's territories and into northern Quebce and Labrador. They spend the winter throughout USA and northern Mexico.
- DIET - White-crowned Sparrow mainly eat seeds and insects. They forage on the ground or in low vegetation, but sometimes make short flights to catch flying insects. In winter, they often forage in flocks.
- FACTS - Every spring we get small flocks of White-crowned Sparrows stop by our backyard feeders on there way to their summer breeding grounds. They sing and feed in our garden looking for fallen seeds from the bird feeders. They occasionally stop again in the fall on their way back south.
