Song Sparrow (Melospiza melodia)
- HABITAT - Song sparrows can live in a wide variety of habitat but it does still favour brushland and marshes, across most of Canada and the United States. There are common in suburban habitats and parklands. The global warming, more Song Sparrows are staying in Southen Ontario over the winter, chosing not to migrate south.
- DIET - Song Sparrows switch their diet with the seasons, feeding on insects during spring and summer and seeds in fall and winter.
- FACTS - Song Sparrow melodies are a welcome sign of the turning of the seasons. Even after the warblers songs fade out and the Red-winged Blackbirds become quiet, the Song Sparrow continues to sing well into summer. This is because the Song Sparrow has to hold onto their nesting territories for two broods.
