Hoary Redpoll (Acanthis hornemanni)
- HABITAT - Hoary Redpolls are true Northern birds spending the summer in the high Arctic. Their range is circumpolar. Hoary Redpolls move south irregularly in winter following patterns in food supply.
- DIET - Redpolls eat mainly seeds and other vegetable matter. This would include catkins, seeds, and buds of willows, alders, and birches, small conifer seeds, weeds and grass seeds. In the summer, they will also eat a variety of insects.
- Facts - Hoary Redpolls look incredibly similar to Common Redpolls and they often flock together. One of the most notable differences between the two species is the streaking on the chest. Common Redpolls have chest streaking that is more defined than in Hoary Redpolls
