Pine Grosbeak (Pinicola enucleator)
- HABITAT - Pine grosbeaks breed in the boreal forests of northern Eurasia and North America. Depending on food availability, they may either remain resident near their breeding grounds or migrate relatively short distances to the southern extent of boreal forests.
- DIET - The diet of the Pine Grosbeak is made up of buds, seeds, and fruits. They will also eat insects and spider during the summer months.
- FACTS - Pine Grosbeaks hop from branch to branch, nipping off fresh buds and needles, as well as on the ground, grabbing fallen seeds. During the winter months, they form small groups that travel together, searching for seeds and fruits. In the winter they also eat grit and salt along roadsides to help them with digestion. That can be a dangerous habit.
