Swainson's Thrush (Catharus ustulatus)
- HABITAT - Swainson’s Thrushes breed mainly in coniferous forests with dense undergrowth across Canada, Alaska, and the northern United States. However, on the Pacific coast, they live in deciduous wooded areas. These birds migrate to southern Mexico and as far south as Argentina where their habitat includes primary and old second-growth tropical forest and forest-pasture edges.
- DIET - Swainson’s Thrushes eat largely insects and arthropods during the breeding season; they also eat fruits, particularly in fall and winter.
- FACTS - The Swainson's Thrush is coniferous forest dweller where, in true thrush fashion, they forage on the forest floor in the leaf litter capturing insects and pulling out earthworms.
