Orchard Oriole (Icterus spurius)
- HABITAT - Orchard Oriole breed in eastern and east-central North America from southern parts of the Canadian to south to northern Florida, the Gulf coast, Texas, and central Mexico. Winters in Central America and northwestern South America. Inhabits open woodlands, orchards, suburban streets and scattered groves of trees. In our area, they are very rare.
- DIET - Orchard Oriole’s diet in summer is mainly insects. In the fall and winter they add more berries to their diet. Often feeds on nectar, and may eat parts of flowers.
- FACTS - Some orioles may return to their wintering grounds as early as mid-July.
