Ruby-crowned Kinglet (Regulus calendula)
- HABITAT - Ruby-crowned Kinglets breed in coniferous, deciduous and mixed woods, as well as isolated trees in meadows. In migration and winter may be found in deciduous trees, but tends to seek out conifers as their favourite habitat. They nest in the northern part of North American and winter throughout southern part of the continent.
- DIET -Kinglets feed on a wide variety of tiny insects and spiders as well as many eggs of insects. They may eat tree sap and rarely feeds on fruit.
- FACTS - One of the smallest songbirds in North America, the Ruby-crowned Kinglets forage frantically through lower branches of shrubs and trees. Males have ruby-red patch that is normally hidden on top of the head. It is only exposes as a symbol of excitement or agitation.
