Cuban Emerald (Riccordia ricordii)
- HABITAT -The Cuban Emerald Hummingbird is native to the island of Cuba and is endemic to the region, meaning it is found nowhere else in the world. These hummingbirds inhabit a variety of habitats across the island, including forests, woodlands, gardens, and coastal areas. They are particularly attracted to areas with abundant flowering plants, which provide them with nectar for sustenance.
- DIET - Like other hummingbird species, the Cuban Emerald primarily feeds on nectar from a variety of flowering plants. They have long, slender bills and extendable tongues that allow them to access the nectar deep within flowers. In addition to nectar, they also consume small insects and spiders, which provide them with essential proteins and nutrients, particularly during the breeding season.
