Northern Cardinal (Cardinalis cardinalis)
- HABITAT - Northern Cardinals live in forests or in thick bushes surrounding residential areas. Their range includes southeastern Canada extending down into central and eastern United States.
- DIET - Northern Cardinal eat insects, seeds, leaf buds, grains, and berries. Their strong beaks help them dig for insects in bushes and bite into tasty seeds, grains and fruits.
- FACTS - Northern Cardinals mate for life, you very seldom see one without the mate being somewhat near.
- The Northern Cardinal is a popular bird. It is the official state bird of 7 eastern states: Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, North Carolina, Ohio, Virginia, and West Virginia. They are also popular for team sports mascots.
