Raven (Corvus corax)
- HABITAT - Found across the Northern Hemisphere, the Common Raven is the most widely distributed of all corvids and one of the most widespread, naturally occurring birds worldwide. Ravens can be found in most types of habitats except for rainforests. Common ravens in North America tend to be found in the more wild areas. In winter, common ravens may gather in flocks to forage during the day and to roost at night. During the rest of the year, they are often coupled, or in small groups.
- DIET - Common Ravens are mainly scavengers. They eat a wide array of animal foods, including arthropods, amphibians, small mammals, birds, reptiles, and carrion. Vegetable foods include grains, acorns, fruits, and buds.
- FACTS - Common Ravens are known for their intelligence and complex social behaviours. They have aerial skills which are used during mating rituals where they dance, dive, chase and roll in mid air.
- No other bird has been included in mythology and folklore, symbolizing wisdom, shapeshifting, prophecy, protection, misfortunes, secrets of creation and destruction.
