Caspian Tern (Hydroprogne caspia)
- HABITAT - Caspian Tern breeds in scattered colonies from central Canada, Great Lakes, and Newfoundland south to the Gulf coast and Baja California. They spend winters north to California and North Carolina. Also breeds in Eurasia, Africa, and Australia. Preferred habitats include sandy or pebbly shores of lakes and large rivers and along coasts.
- DIET - Caspian Tern eat fish mostly and occasionally crayfish and insects. They feed by flying over water searching for prey and then dive swiftly into the water.
- FACTS - The Caspian Tern is the largest tern in the world, easily recognized by its brilliant red bill and deep, raspy call. Found all over the world, the Caspian live in both freshwater and saltwater environments.
