Sanderling (Calidris alba)
- HABITAT - The Sanderling is one of the world’s most widespread shorebirds. It is a circumpolar high Arctic breeder and is a long-distance migrant, wintering south to South America, South Europe, Africa, and Australia. Sanderlings nest on the dry, northern tundra, often close to lakes or ponds.
- DIET - Sanderlings feed on a variety of aquatic invertebrates and sometimes carrion. They feed by probing along a beach where they have stuck their beaks into the sand probing for food.
- FACTS - Among shorebirds, only the Ruddy Turnstone and the Whimbrel rival its worldwide distribution.
