Red-necked Phalarope (Phalaropus lobatus)
- HABITAT - Red-necked Phalaropes breed around lakes, bogs, and marshes in the Arctic tundra in North America and Eurasia and it winters at sea on tropical oceans.
- DIET - They eat mainly aquatic invertebrates and some flying insects. The above images shows the classic feeding behavior of spinning around to bring up food to the surface.
- FACTS - Red-necked Phalaropes have reversed roles compared to most birds. The male incubates the eggs and cares for the young while the females compete for males and defend territories.
