Northern Goshawk (Accipiter gentilis)
- HABITAT - Northern Goshawks are found throughout North America, Europe, and Asia. In North America, their range spans Alaska, Canada, the western United States, and parts of the Appalachian Mountains.
These birds prefer dense coniferous and mixed forests, where they have ample cover for hunting and nesting.
- DIET - Goshawks are carnivorous and opportunistic hunters, feeding on birds, mammals (like squirrels and rabbits), and occasionally reptiles. They are known for their agility and speed during hunts. They are stealthy predators, using their environment for concealment. They often surprise prey with short bursts of speed and power.
- FACTS - The name "goshawk" comes from Old English gōshafoc, meaning "goose hawk," though they rarely hunt geese.
