Black-headed Gull (Chroicocephalus ridibundus)
- HABITAT - They are widespread and can be found in a variety of habitats, including lakes, rivers, coastal areas, and marshes in the Arctic regions of the Northern Hemisphere. Black-headed Gulls breed in colonies, often in mixed colonies with other gull species.
- DIET - Their diet is diverse and includes fish, insects, invertebrates, small mammals, and carrion. Black-headed Gulls are also known to scavenge for food in urban areas and garbage dumps.
- FACTS - During the breeding season, adults have a distinctive appearance with a dark chocolate-brown hood covering the head. Outside the breeding season, the hood is lost, and the head is mostly white with a dark spot behind the eye.
- Black-headed Gulls are known for their aerial acrobatics, often hovering or diving to catch prey.
