Eurasian Oystercatcher (Haematopus ostralegus)
- HABITAT - Eurasian Oystercatcher is fairly widespread, breeding in Iceland, British Ilse, Scandinavia, westen europ, China and Korea. The European population breeds mainly in northern Europe, but in winter the birds can be found in north Africa and southern parts of Europe. Eurasian Oystercatchers are typically found in coastal regions, including sandy and rocky shores, estuaries, mudflats, and coastal grasslands.
They can also be seen inland near lakes and rivers, especially during the breeding season.
- DIET - Eurasian Oystercatchers eat mostly molluscs, worms, crustaceans and insects. Their specially adaptable bills and pry open mussels.
