Black-bellied Plover (Pluvialis squatarola)
- HABITAT - Black-bellied Plover spend the summer in the tundra. For nesting, they prefer drier tundra, often more barren ridges above lowland lakes and rivers. In winter, they migrate south to open sand beaches and tidal flats. Black-bellied Plovers breed in the northernmost reaches of North America and Eurasia.
- DIET - On breeding grounds and during migration inland, Black-bellied Plovers eat mostly insects, crustaceans, worms. On coast, eats many marine worms, crustaceans, small mollusks. They feed by running a few steps and then pausing, then running again, pecking at the ground whenever they spot something edible.
