- Habitat: wet calcareous to slightly acidic soils in open fields, pastures, and particularly burned-over lands.
- Native/Non-native: native throughout the temperate Northern Hemisphere.
- Common name refers to it's quick distribution in areas recently burnt.
- Chamaenerion is derived from the Greek chamai , meaning "low", "near the ground", and nerion , a similar looking Asian flower; augustifolium means "narrow-leaved".
